Garfunkel & Garfunkel
Arriving hot on the heels of the father/son duo’s internationally acclaimed, intergenerational hit album “Father and Son,” an instant top-5 success in Germany, Garfunkel & Garfunkel return with a special remix treat: Highlighting another 80s classic off their first-ever collaborative album, the brand-new “Jojo Remix” to the recent duo recording of Ph.D.’s iconic “I Won’t Let You Down” will be available via all DSPs on March 28, 2025.
Opening his atmospheric remix version with the iconic synthesizer melody, production wizard Felix Gauder (Pet Shop Boys, Jimmy Somerville) once again highlights the unique vocal chemistry between Garfunkel Sr. and Garfunkel Jr. Whereas the latter’s voice dramatically soars during the chorus (“I won’t let you down”), complete with beats and strings, Garfunkel Sr. joins in during the quieter verses, adding vocal gravitas to yet another majestic 80s cover tune (originally recorded by Ph.D. in 1981). Both epic and dancefloor-ready, both contemporary and true to its 80s roots, the new remix arrives in the same vein as earlier single “Time After Time” (Cyndi Lauper) or the duo’s cover of Eurythmics’ “Here Comes The Rain Again”.
Whereas the brand-new “Jojo Remix” also comes with beats and contemporary dance elements, the accompanying album “Father and Son” primarily sees Garfunkel & Garfunkel “go for a real modern orchestral vibe, with lots of strings.” “Truly a father-son project,” Garfunkel Jr. brought more of the 80s influences into the project, whereas his father proposed various classics from the Great American Songbook – “wonderful songs from the 1940s and so on.” With further album highlights including timeless songs by The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and, of course, Cat Stevens, they enlisted three international greats to capture the unique father-son dynamic: Trusted hit producer Felix Gauder, also responsible for the new remix, was joined by top-notch Italian string arranger Davide Rossi (Coldplay, Alicia Keys) and famed UK studio wizard Ash Howes (Kylie, Ellie Goulding).
“Back on the charts again!” Art Garfunkel Sr. commented in November 2024 when “Father and Son” went straight to #5 in Germany, where it remained in the official sales charts for almost two months. Additionally, Garfunkel & Garfunkel’s first collaborative album received rave reviews and widespread critical acclaim around the globe (including US Rolling Stone, Forbes, NYT, NME, Sunday Times).
Art Garfunkel Jr. was born in Manhattan in 1990, the first child of Kathryn and Art Garfunkel. Spending most of his childhood and youth in the United States, he often accompanied his father on tour even as a kid. After moving to Berlin as a teenager, he toured extensively with his father in 2018 and 2019, followed by release of his first two solo albums, “Wie Du” and “Evergreen,” which hit the top 10 and the top 15, respectively, in Germany. Art Garfunkel launched his career in 1957 as one half of famed US folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, which he founded together with songwriter Paul Simon. Global hit singles such as “Sound of Silence,” “Scarborough Fair,” “Mrs. Robinson,” “The Boxer,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” have since become part of the canon of Western Pop History. After the duo split up in 1970, Garfunkel not only landed massive solo hits (e.g. “Bright Eyes”), but also acted in various Hollywood films. Having shared stages with Paul Simon occasionally over the last decades (their 1981 Central Park performance in front of a 500k+ audience comes to mind), he’s recently been performing with his son, Art Garfunkel Jr…
